Here comes the bride

Yesterday we attended the wedding of my husband’s friends from high school. For thirteen years they have stuck it out and yesterday they tied the knot in front of their families and friends and had the most eloquent vowels I ever heard.

Somewhere between the end of the ceremony and the hors d’oeuvres, I found myself contemplating what it really means to marry someone. It’s not all about the dress, whose coming to the wedding, or the honeymoon-it’s about so much else.

Working with your partner through financial trouble, holding their hands in their time of need, and supporting their dreams. These things are more important than anything else. Trust me, all of this is easier said then done, especially when you add work, kids, and other family members, but it can be done.

The best advice I could give to someone thinking about getting married is to ask yourself: Would I be able to problem solve with this person? Could I see myself growing with this person? Does this person have goals? How does this person treat others? Again, these may seem like simple questions, but the responses will really tell you about that person.
