no7 (Number 7) make-up

It was a casual shopping day-not a baby crying or preoccupied husband in sight. So of course one must treat themselves to a “little” trip to Ulta! I had my shadow with me and for the price of an Auntie Anne’s pretzel, I knew I would have at least an hour to do what I like to do.

As we approached the entry way to the door, I did my quick mental checklist of what I absolutely needed and what would be a good addition to my makeup collection. At the top of the shopping list was setting powder, blush, and mascara. Okay, I thought, actually I don’t need any of these things, buttttt I’m tired of what I have so what harm could it do? As I walked over to my usual corner to check out the Revlon section, I was approached by a friendly person.

Wow was all I could think at first because it is rare to find a person that goes out of their way to speak to you. Then I quickly realized that the person was an Ulta employee. Double WOW because they’re usually pretty preoccupied with other customers. Let’s see what the pitch of the day is

Something about “new makeup company,” she says. Something about, buildable coverage,”she says. “Affordable price…special gift.” Hold up, up! You had me at the last points of your pitch. “Okay,” I decide, “I’ll give it a try”. I guess in that spiel I missed the part that she said she would need to take a picture of my face to match with foundation. (Have to make sure I check my Auntie Anne’s timer…We’re still good!)

As she applies the first shade of Number 7 foundation, I’m not sure what to expect. It’s a new company so I can’t really ask about other customer reviews. When she gives me the mirror it looks decent. Nice even coverage, no oily spots, blends well with the rest of my skin, but it just seems a little off. “Umm, this shade is okay, but it doesn’t really look like what I’m used to.”

“That’s okay,” she says and goes to retrieve another color that may be a possible match. She does a side by side comparison and also fixes up my eyebrows just a tad. BABY! I wish I had a pic to show you the awesomeness. If I didn’t already know love at first sight, this might be close. It was magic on my face, it felt almost velvety and on the side that matched-I just didn’t want to take it off.

So…scratch all that from the previously mentioned mental checklist. I had to grab that foundation, lipstick (free gift), and I think I got my hands on some mascara at the last minute. Here are some looks achieved using the foundation:

Instagram is such a blessing and a curse. It inspires, shocks, and humors me all at the same time (follow me What I love the most about this app is that it allows you to see the world from your fingertips, much like Google did with Google Earth. I love seeing hashtags that have made their way around the world, people with like minded careers and goals, and most importantly those makeup gurus.

Some of the best makeup clips have guided me to some pretty awesome Youtubers like PatrickStarrr, NikkieTutorials, and MsAliyahJay (note: these are their actual YouTube channel names so you can look them up for yourself). At some point you will need them! I like watching a variety of videos to see which new products they are using, their favorite products, and looks to inspire my own.

My need to #glowup has grown thanks to these folks and others I am subscribed to. One of my glowing looks from last weekend is the featured photo for this post. To highlight, I used Revlon’s highlighting palette on my cheekbones and browbones. You want to use a fan brush or carefully use a blush brush to sweep the powder from your cheeks to brow in a C-motion. Don’t worry it seems more complicated than it sounds. You also want to add some highlight to your nose and inner corners of your eyes. The result….AMAZING! If you don’t want such a noticeable glow, skip the second step (party pooper).

Be prepared for people telling you how good you look and trying to figure out your age, well that’s what happened to me! Try it yourself and tag me in your IG photos.

Happiness is…

It’s Friday! I’m so glad to make it to the end of the work week, not that I have any exciting plans for the weekend, but the days seemed to go by sooo slow. This week I tried to focus more on starting my day off right: reading YouVersion’s Bible verse of the day, putting on a little makeup, and having a hot cup of coffee during my commute.

Starting my day off with a scripture gives me something to think about throughout the day and gives me a sense of purpose. The other day, this is what came up as the verse of the day:

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Matthew‬ ‭5:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

How can you fail with wisdom like that?

My new make up obsession kind of happened overnight, I guess I missed the whole experimental period I was supposed to have with it in high school. It just amazes me how a little foundation can go a long way and the millions of products are out there. Who said it was okay to have all these products to tempt me? My husband kind of hates the fact that I put on makeup more, but I’m just like deal with it; this is my obsession and I’m sticking to it!

The coffee thing in the morning isn’t a new thing for me, but now it’s way more religious. The thought of missing my morning cup of joe scares me, like how would I make it? I need that dose of happiness in my cup cut down on the obscenities that I throw out to drivers that make my commute that much harder.

Listen, I may not have a whole routine into place yet, but I do see myself slowly adapting so I can make the most of this life I live. Moving forward I really want to accept the things I can’t change so that I don’t compromise my happiness. Do something to make yourself happy!
